The Space to Just Be: Why a Solo Getaway Might Be Exactly What You Need

The Space to Just Be: Why a Solo Getaway Might Be Exactly What You Need

Staying somewhere entirely on your own can feel a bit daunting, especially if it’s something you’ve not done before. What is it we fear? Often, it’s the quiet, or the worry of feeling out of place. But planning a solo getaway to West Wales isn’t about running away from the noise, it’s about giving you and your mind a rare opportunity to stop running around and just be.

Whilst the cabin here at Erwain Escapes is often booked for romantic breaks and celebrations such as birthdays and anniversaries, there’s something equally special about choosing yourself for once and escaping to the quiet corners of West Wales. It’s a genuine chance to breathe and have the space entirely to yourself.

We’ve noticed more guests choosing to escape to the cabin completely on their own lately, and honestly, we completely understand why. Embracing a solo getaway, in West Wales is the perfect backdrop and is simply a way of choosing yourself for once.

The Freedom of a Solo Getaway in West Wales

Arriving somewhere alone may feel a bit strange at first, but what lies ahead as you walk through the gate is complete and utter freedom for a few days. There’s no one else to worry about, no compromises, no rushing, and absolutely no pressure of the “I need to do…” or “I must do…”.

The Carmarthenshire landscape and the meadow itself have a certain magic about them. They naturally slow everything down. You begin to hear things again, the ticking of the grasshoppers, buzz of bees, the breeze through the trees, and the gentle sound of the river flowing. Simple things, but things that so often go unnoticed when life gets loud. You even pick up on the quiet that allows your thoughts to finally settle.

Wild Companions and a Real ‘Cwtch’

Despite the phrase “travelling alone,” many guests tell us they’ve never felt less lonely here. Nature has a way of making you feel connected to something bigger. Dark, star-studded skies, night owls calling, the changing weather, and mist clinging to the hills all become little companions during your stay. As do the things inside; glow of the woodburner, the whistle of the kettle or a theraputic jigsaw puzzle. You can quite easily strike up a conversation with the resident woodpecker, the little blue tits and chaffinches that greet you at the bird feeder, or that little fox cub sneaking through the grass, trying not to be noticed.

Despite the phrase ‘travelling alone,’ many guests tell us they’ve never felt less lonely here. Nature has a way of making you feel connected to something bigger. Dark, star-studded skies, night owls calling, the changing weather, and mist clinging to the hills all become companions during your stay. Even the simple things inside keep you company, like the glow of the woodburner, the whistle of the kettle, or a jigsaw puzzle left out on the table. You’ll even find yourself chatting to the resident woodpecker, the blue tits and chaffinches that greet you at the bird feeder, or that little fox cub sneaking through the grass, trying not to be noticed.

One of the nicest things about a solo getaway is realising you don’t actually have to do anything at all. Some guests want to go out and explore, while others just want to enjoy the space they are surrounded by. It’s a real ‘Cwtch’. Having a long, relaxing outdoor bath, whatever the time of day and whatever the weather, suddenly feels entirely acceptable. Afternoon naps, reading books uninterrupted, and having a quiet cuppa on the deck while listening to the birds become your only priority. You get to decide exactly when to wake up, when to enjoy your favourite meal with a glass of vino, and when to indulge in a little treat or two without having to check in with anyone else. Total bliss.

Exploring West Wales on Your Own Terms

Of course, should you fancy heading out, you may well hesitate at the thought of venturing out alone to find places to explore or for a bite to eat. It can bring about that familiar, uncomfortable feeling of sitting at a table for one. But this corner of West Wales is incredibly laid-back, easy to navigate, and above all, extremely welcoming. You only have to visit our local, the community-run Cwmdu Inn, to realise that. Stepping out to visit independent places to eat often leads to the most meaningful, warm interactions with the local community, or just a quiet ‘wow’ moment all to yourself.

Solo travel has a way of building your confidence without you even realising it. Sometimes it’s just about throwing yourself into something entirely new, whether that’s getting out on the water, trying an activity you’ve always fancied, or just laughing your way through a challenge where the only person watching is an instructor you’ll never see again.
