Our story began when we worked together as teenagers…OMG teenagers!
Fast forward 11 years to ’94 when we met again by chance perhaps or possibly fate but we’ve been soulmates ever since.
During those years apart we’d uncannily developed a true love of nature and wildlife and shared multiple other interests but our passion intensified and we’ve been humbled over time to have experienced many breaks with a focus on conservation, culture and eco-tourism.
It wasn’t until a quick getaway to Wales that we were wowed by its beauty and with Ian’s many years in construction and breathing new life into old and myself having my own consultancy, we realised it was time for change especially Ian having severe health issues.
Our search began as soon as we returned home and stumbled across a wonderful idyl. We sensed it was right when we found ourselves in the middle of the meadow with its magical landscape and the sounds of the river, we shared an unimaginable feeling.
So, taking a leap of faith, we relocated the 285 miles from Essex to the heart of Carmarthenshire in October 2018 and we’ve truly found our special happy place, a new found freedom and a place which has helped in our own personal recovery. A space to embrace the joy of the wildlife, flora and fauna that surrounds us as well as being part of a wonderful community.
Wanting others to also experience this and having converted an old cart lodge into an award-winning self-catering accommodation previously, we had a huge desire to create something not only quirky and unique but sustainable. A space to reconnect, rejuvenate and a place to escape the highly stressed pace of life as did we.
Little did we know we would be met with a number of challenges and although adjustments to our initial plans had to be made, when you have a passion and vision, it made us even more determined to achieve something individual and special as Erwain Escapes.
Following your dreams can force you out of your comfort zone and even cause anguish but my father-in-Law always used to say ‘It’s a long road without a turning’ and yes, it is and has been, but hey ‘Everything Happens for a Reason’ right, and it’s all now a magical reality!
We hope you too will enjoy our special place and the experience of being closer to nature and look forward to meeting and welcoming you.
