When writer and photographer Louise Gorrod came to stay at The Cabin at Erwain Escapes, she arrived much like many of our guests do, with a busy workload and a head full of to-dos. But purposely with no agenda other than to simply slow down, switch off, and spend just a couple of nights in our wildflower meadow in Carmarthenshire. It turned out to be the perfect luxury glamping cabin retreat and digital detox Louise was after, and one we were absolutely thrilled to see featured in The Simple Things magazine.
Creating the Cabin Retreat We Longed For
Having relocated to what we call our little slice of heaven at the end of 2018, we experienced firsthand the utter peace and tranquillity this valley offers. Erwain Escapes grew from a simple idea: to create the sort of place we were always looking for ourselves. Somewhere quiet and grounded, where you can really put your phone away, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the simple pleasures of being outdoors, but still wrapped in luxury.
The Cabin was created and built with all that and more in mind, but also to be mindful of the landscape and the nature within it. It nestles, tucked away into its surroundings, from it’s sedum roof and wraparound deck, to the bird feeders, potted herbs, and sun loungers that make it easy to linger outside.
Inside, it’s the small comforts that make a big difference. From marshmallow pillows, Egyptian cotton linens, and cosy bathroom robes, to local eco-friendly toiletries, fresh meadow flowers, and locally sourced Carmarthenshire treats, and bottle of our very own apple juice made with apples from the orchard for guests to enjoy. Our whole aim is that you can arrive, put the kettle on, and instantly feel the weight of the world drop away straight away!

Louise’s stay: A real reset, not just a weekend away
As hosts, there is always that moment of anticipation before a guest arrives, in hope they will find the peace they are looking for and fully discover the magic of this special place, just as we did.
We needn’t have worried. Louise stepped into the meadow and immediately settled into the slower pace. Her weekend was just what The Simple Things magazine is all about: The Art of Slowing Down.
Mornings started with coffee in the sunken outdoor bath, looking out over the wildflower meadow. Days drifted by between the hammock by the river, the deck, and when she felt she should prise herself away, taking a short trip to nearby Llandeilo’s independent shops, cafes and bakeries, not forgetting our very own Cwmdu Inn and community shop.
But perhaps the real magic happened as day turned to night. Evenings were for simple food cooked over the firepit, a glass of something chilled, and stargazing once the sky darkened, or quietly snuggled under blankets by the wood-burning stove with the Roberts Radio playing softly in the background.

What stayed with her most was how restorative it felt to have four acres of meadow to themselves and no Wi-Fi, TV, or Netflix calling for attention. Seeing it in print, that just a couple of nights left them feeling as refreshed as a ten-day holiday, was amazing to hear. It really is a proper reset rather than just a quick getaway.

Discover Your Own Simple Things Experience
The loveliest part of Louise’s feature is that the experience she shared isn’t exclusive or just a story on a page, it’s exactly what is waiting here for you. We’ll be here to welcome you, then leave you to enjoy the space in your own way.
If you are craving a proper digital detox, a meaningful pause, or simply a couple of nights to reconnect with nature, that feels increasingly rare, come and pull your trolley through the buttercups and meadowsweet, stoke the firepit as the sun sets, and enjoy four acres of West Wales wilderness all to yourself. Whether you want to explore the local independent delis or simply doze by the river with a book and the sound of birdsong, it’s time for your very own well-deserved reset.
Ready to switch off, breathe deeply, and enjoy a proper simple things tonic?
